Onion Pakoda

Onion Pakoda is a great starter for your guests or as a tea time snack.


    Medium onions (cut lengthwise) - 4
    Mint leaves (clean and chopped) - ½ cup
    Fennel - 1-1/2 tsp
    Ginger piece - 1 inch
    Green chili (slit) - 2
    Oil for deep frying
    Salt - As required


    Ingredients for batter

    Rice flour - ¼ cup
    Gram flour - ½ cup
    Red chili powder - 1 tsp.
    Cooking soda -A pinch
    Asafoetida - A pinch
    Salt - As required

  • Spatula
  • Deep bottomed pan
  • Serving dish

preparation method

  • In a bowl, combine the batter ingredients along with onion, fennel, green chili, mint leaves,curry leaves,salt, ginger,and 2 tbsp. of hot oil.
  • Mix well and sprinkle little water to prepare a dry mixture.
  • In a deep bottomed pan, heat oil and then put the onion mixture in a sprinkled method and deep-fry over medium heat until golden.
  • Serve hot.

Serving Suggestions

    Serve hot pakodas with any chutney or sauce.
