Rice Appe


    1 cup rice, (chawal), soaked in water
    ¼ cup urad dal, soaked
    ¼ cup onions, finely chopped,( pyaz)
    ¼ cup peanuts, finely crushed,( moongphalli)
    1 tsp mustard seeds,(sarson/ rai)
    1 tsp cumin seeds,( jeera)
    7-8 curry leaves, (kadi patte)
    2 green chillies, finely chopped. (hari mirch)
    2 tbsp carrots, finely chopped, ( gajar)
    A pinch of asafoetida, ( hing, )
    4 tsp oil,( tel )
    Salt to taste, (namak)
    coconut chutney to serve


preparation method

Soak the rice and urad dal for 2 hours separately.
Blend the rice and urad dal using the water in which they are soaked, and make a slightly thin batter and let it ferment overnight.
Remove the mixture in a bowl.
Heat a pan with oil and add onions and sauté until the onions become golden brown.
Now add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves, gereen chillies, crushed peanuts,carrots and asafoetida and after roasting for 1 more minute take it off the gas.
Now add this mix to the batter and add salt to taste.
Heat an appe making tawa and grease it with oil. With a spoon pour the batter into the appe pockets to fill them 3/4th.
Cook for 5 minutes and keep checking if the underside has become brown or not.
With the help of a satay stick turn the appe and cook for another minute on the other side.
They are done if they bounce back when pressed lightly with the stick.
Serve the appe hot with a coconut chutney.
