Tidali Dal ( Mixed Pulses Curry)

Three dals cooked together with simple masalas


  • Split skinless black gram (dhuli urad dal) 3 tbsps
  • Split Bengal gram (chana dal) 3 tbsps
  • Split skinless green gram (dhuli moong dal) 3 tbsps
  • Oil 2 tbsps
  • Medium onion 1
  • Green chillies 3
  • Turmeric powder 1 tsp
  • Asafoetida (hing) 1 pinch
  • Cumin seeds 1 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves, finely chopped 1 tbsp


  • Mix all the dals in a large bowl and soak in plenty of water for at least 3-4 hours.
  • Chop onion and green chillies.
  • Heat oil in a pressure cooker, add onion and green chillies and saute till they turn light brown.
  • Add dals, turmeric powder, asafoetida, cumin seeds and salt and mix well. Cook on medium heat for 5 minutes.
  • Add 3 cups of water and mix. Cook under pressure till the dals are cooked and soft.
  • The consistency of the dal should not be too thick nor too thin.
  • Transfer into a serving bowl, garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
