Apple and Orange Crumble
Apples (Saeb) – 2, peeled, cored and cut into thin slices
Butter (Makhan) – 6 tbsp
Orange juice (Narangi ka ras) – 1 cup
Refined flour (Maida) – 100 gms
Plain flour (Aata) – 50 gms
Brown sugar (Bhuri Cheeni) – 25 gms, ground
Icing sugar – 40 gms
Cardamon(Elaichi) powder – 1 tsp
Zest of 1 orange – (Narangi ka chilka)
Step 1 – In a buttered baking dish, place apple slices. Pour orange juice and add orange zest(by grating the rind / skin of the orange –only the soft part and not the white part of the peel as that is bitter). Add brown sugar and mix all the ingredients well.
Step 2 – For the top crust, in a bowl, combine Maida, aata, 5 tbsp of butter and mix with hand till they appear like bread crumbs. Add icing sugar and dalchini powder, mix all.
Step 3 –Spread this crumble mixture on top of the fruit mixture in the baking dish. Do not mix as the crumble will form the top crust of the dish. Bake at 200 degrees for 20 minutes.
